College Profile:
St Xavier's College affiliated to the university of Kerala, is established and maintained by the Jesuits of Kerala province, and is located at Thumba in Thiruvananthapuram district of Kerala State, South India. At its inception in 1964, it was a part of Loyola Institutions at Sreekariyam in Thiruvananthapuram. In 1965 the college was shifted to the present site, about four kilometers west of Kazhakuttom, around twenty kilometers from the Thiruvananthapuram Railway station and Fifteen Kilometers from Thiruvananthapuram International Airport. The College was upgraded in 1977Like other Jesuit Educational Institutions, St Xavier's aim at the training of young men and women of quality, who would grow up as creative leaders and responsible citizens, in the service of the people. Every effort is made to see that the students make intellectually equipped, morally upright, socially committed and God conscious. Christian truths, values and perspectives provide illumination for the education that is sought to be offered here.Though St Xavier's is primarily meant for the uplift of Latin Catholics, it is open to all, without any distinction of caste or creed. The motto on the college crest "Asatho Ma Sadgamaya" is from Brahadaranyaka Upanishad. It means "from every evil lead me to good". In the Upanishad sense "from evil" all those things and actions, which dehumanize man, keeping him in ignorance and misery. "Lead me to good", is a prayer for help to follow the path, which liberates man from bondage and leads him or her to the final goal-God, life eternal.
